Civic and College Leaders pause to remember

At its annual Remembrance Day Service Concordia Lutheran College staff, students, parents, friends and civic leaders gathered to pay tribute to Australian Defence Force personnel who served during World War One and subsequent wars, conflicts and peace-keeping operations.
Toowoomba Regional Council Deputy Mayor Mr Paul Antonio and Councillors Bill Cahill, Joe Ramia, Noel Strohfeld and John McVeigh joined Concordia Lutheran College Chair Mrs Shona Promnitz and Head of College Mr Michael Kaiser in a moving ceremony led by students.

The Address was presented by Year 11 student Corporal Matthew Suhl. His speech highlighted acts of Mateship, Courage and Loyalty by Pte John Simpson Kirkpatrick, Warrant Officer Class 2 Keith Payne VC and Trooper Mark Donaldson VC and their strength of purpose under fire. Various readings, trumpet, pipe organ and a vocal ensemble provided an emotive atmosphere for this time of contemplation.

Year 7 and 8 Middle College students had made poppies and in a moving commitment to world peace, laid them at the foot of the cross. Redlands Campus leaders, Mr Michael Kaiser, Mr Paul Antonio and Mrs Shona Promnitz laid wreaths.

It is through services like these that we will never forget Australian sacrifice, as young people are eager to embrace our heritage. And as we drive through almost any country town, let us pause at the ANZAC or War memorial because each name tells a story.

Music Awards - Outstanding Talent rewarded

Middle School and Senior School musicians recently travelled to Brisbane to showcase their talents. What a day! Our students shone out against the region's best. Who knows what order to announce success?! It's all great.

Jenyu Shaw (trombone) was given an Adjudicators' Award for outstanding individual performance on the day. Jenyu is in the Middle School band.

Emily Fox, Senior School trumpet, was also awarded an Adjucators' Award.

The Rhythm Section (Richard Gillmore bass guitar, Simon Cox drums and Bart Thrupp guitar), too, was singled out for excellence with an Adjudicators' Award.

In fact the only Adjudicators' Award that the combined bands did not receive was for piano. We did not have a piano player on the day.

The Middle School band received a Silver Award.
The Senior School band was singled out for a supreme award; a Platinum Award. It was the only Platinum Award handed out on the day.

These results are a credit to the hard work of the students and the dedication of their teachers. Well done to all of you.

Technology at its best

This beautiful timepiece was built by Dan Neale. It is 2.3 m tall and 1.5 m wide. It would look awesome in any hallway or lounge. The light coloured wood is Tasmanian Oak and the darker wood is Iron Bark. The movement is German made and sourced from Sydney. So large is this piece that Dan says it will probably remain with relatives close by rather that risk the long trip home. It is a credit to Dan's skills and to the Technology Department at the College who offer such wonderful opportunities to future craftsmen such as Dan.

State Champion

Good on you Natasha Emeck who won the under 16 State shotput title with a hugely impressive 1 metre winning margin.

Student wins DISCO award

Congratulations to Lincoln Evans for his runner up recognition at the recent DISCO Annual Training Awards. Lincoln has been training in Construction while still at Concordia. He has done well to keep up with both his Construction training and his studies.

F1 challenge at Concordia a massive success

What a huge event to be held at Concordia Lutheran College. We had hundreds of student, teacher and other visitors over the two days of competition. This link is to an ABC report about some of the entertainment.

Hail Concordia!!

A rare treat for the students. A heavy shower of hail passed through. Any precipitation is welcome in Toowoomba at present.

The second clip shows students running for cover. Of course the end of day bell sounded just as the hail began. Fun! Let's hope it's a sign of a good wet season.
